The prospect of living in Zimbabwe is something of a risk at the moment, so you could think that there might be little affinity for patronizing Zimbabwe’s gambling dens. In fact, it appears to be working the other way around, with the atrocious market conditions leading to a bigger eagerness to play, to try and find a quick win, a way out of the crisis.

For most of the people subsisting on the meager local wages, there are two dominant styles of gambling, the national lotto and Zimbet. As with practically everywhere else on the planet, there is a national lotto where the chances of hitting are unbelievably small, but then the jackpots are also surprisingly big. It’s been said by financial experts who study the idea that the majority don’t buy a card with the rational expectation of hitting. Zimbet is founded on either the local or the British football divisions and involves predicting the results of future games.

Zimbabwe’s gambling dens, on the other shoe, look after the exceedingly rich of the society and sightseers. Up till a short while ago, there was a considerably large sightseeing industry, founded on nature trips and trips to Victoria Falls. The market anxiety and associated bloodshed have cut into this trade.

Amongst Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has just the slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only one armed bandits. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which have gaming tables, slots and video machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the two of which has slot machines and table games.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the aforementioned mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a parimutuel betting system), there are also 2 horse racing complexes in the country: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd city) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Seeing as that the market has contracted by beyond 40 percent in recent years and with the connected deprivation and crime that has arisen, it is not known how well the vacationing industry which funds Zimbabwe’s gambling halls will do in the next few years. How many of the casinos will survive until things get better is basically not known.
